The Construction Engineer – Nightworks will be responsible for the planning, supervision, and technical execution of construction activities carried out during night-time operations within a live, operational airport environment. Reporting to the Construction Manager, the role ensures that all night works are delivered safely and efficiently, and in compliance with project, contractual, and airport operational requirements, while minimizing disruption to airport activities.
This is a predominantly night-shift–based role (10:00 PM to 7:00 AM) within a live operational airport, involving high levels of interaction with airport operations, safety teams, subcontractors, and site management, and requiring strict adherence to aviation security, safety, and operational protocols.

Key Responsibilities include:
Nightworks Planning & Delivery
Plan, coordinate, and implement night‑time construction activities in accordance with approved programmes and possession windows
Ensure that nightworks are executed in line with approved method statements, risk assessments, and permits
Supervise site activities during night shifts, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety targets are achieved
Ensure proper handover between day and night shift teams
Site Engineering & Technical Support
Provide on‑site engineering support for nightworks, including setting out, checking works, and resolving technical issues
Ensure construction works comply with drawings, specifications, and design approvals
Manage technical queries that arise during night operations and escalate where necessary
Maintain accurate records of works completed during night shifts
Health, Safety & Airport Compliance
Maintain full compliance with airport safety rules, airside permits, and operational constraints
Enforce safe systems of work during night operations, including fatigue management and reduced‑visibility controls
Participate in toolbox talks, night briefings, and safety observations
Ensure emergency procedures and communications are understood and in place for night operations
Coordination & Interfaces
Coordinate with airport operations, airside management, and project stakeholders to ensure nightworks align with approved access arrangements
Manage subcontractors and suppliers working night shifts
Liaise closely with the Construction Manager and Site Management team regarding progress, issues, and upcoming works
Coordinate logistics, plant, and materials for night operations
Quality Assurance & Documentation
Ensure nightworks comply with quality requirements, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), and project standards
Record progress, inspections, and any non‑conformances identified during night operations
Maintain daily nightwork reports, shift logs, and progress updates
Support as‑built documentation and handover records
Programme & Reporting
Track progress of nightworks against short‑term and overall programme milestones
Identify risks, constraints, and opportunities for improvement in night‑time operations
Provide clear written and verbal reports to the Construction Manager following night shifts
Contribute to recovery planning and resequencing of works where required
Essential criteria:
Legal right to work in the Republic of Ireland
Willingness to complete a 5-year background screening as part of the hiring process
Degree in Industrial, mechanical or Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
Proven experience in a site or construction engineering role, preferably involving nightworks
Experience working in live operational environments with strict safety and access controls
Strong knowledge of method statements, risk assessments, and permit systems
Strong understanding of construction sequencing and site operations
Ability to manage works in time‑restricted and safety‑critical environments
Excellent communication and coordination skills, particularly during shift handovers
High level of safety awareness and decision‑making under pressure
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to work autonomously during night shifts
Desirable criteria:
Experience working in an airport, rail, or other 24/7 operational infrastructure environment
Familiarity with Irish construction standards and procedures
Safe Pass and applicable airport security clearances (or ability to obtain)
Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors during out‑of‑hours works
